Henry James

Born in New York City on 15th April 1843, younger brother of William James, the philosopher. Educated in France, Germany and Switzerland, as well as in the United State, and studied law for a time at the Law School of Harvard University. Made visits to England and Europe 1869-70, 1872-4. From 1876 lived in London and at Rye, Sussex, from 1896. Naturalised as a British subject, 1915; awarded Order of Merit, January 1916. Died on 28th Febuary 1916.
