to Hand
From 'Vocabulary' part of How To Use ABC Of Plain Words by Sir E Gowers (1951)

Do not use the expression to hand in the sense of received. It is one of those commercial clichés that do not mean anything.

I thank you for your letter of the 15th inst., which came to hand on the 18th idem.

It would be better to say "which was received. . . ." As to inst and idem, see INST.
