Advert
From 'Vocabulary' part of The ABC Of Plain Words by Sir E Gowers (1951)

Adverting to my letter of the 7th August, 1947, I have to inform you that. . . .

Do not begin a letter like that. Advert (except as a slang contraction of advertisement) is now an archaic word, and to start a letter with it is to create an atmosphere of primness which you will not easily dispel.
