Theobald

Isaac de Benserade (1613-1691), who had been the darling of the Hotel de Rambouillet and a famous précieux poet. He was a supporter of Fontenelle in the Quarrel of ancients and modems, and an adversary of La Bruyère's; there is a touch of personal animosity in this portrait.
