Grieve's note to Changes To The Constitution
in Part 2 of "Reflections On The Revolution"

In 196 B.C. Rome having subjugated the Greek states proclaimed them free giving them the opportunity to justify their old reputation for self-government. The difficulties became apparent when the liberated districts were distributed among existing political organizations. The degenerate Greeks failed to work out their own salvation, and in 148 B.C. their country was incorporated in the Roman province of Macedon.
