Frank Swinnerton
author of the biography of Arnold Bennet

Mr. Swinnerton writes as one with a dual reputation as novelist and critic. Perhaps his own best known story is his exquisite 'Nocturne', followed closely in general favour by 'The Georgian House'.

His critical studies of Gissing, Stevenson and above all of the whole Georgian Literary Scene' in a volume with that title have shown consistently sound judgement, and an uncommon sense of proportion.
