Sir John Denham's 'Cooper's Hill,' published at Oxford, 1633, describes the scenery of a part of the Thames near Windsor, and overlooking the famous lowlands of Runnymead. The poem is important as being the first example of that local poetry which seems almost confined to English literature, and which was afterwards to receive such exquisite development in Gray's 'Elegy in a Country Churchyard.'
