A MAN, 21, faced court yesterday on a charge of murder after a fatal brawl at a Brisbane taxi rank.
Ryan William Moody has been charged with murdering Nigel Chee Fai Lee, 31, at the Petrie Tee rank about 3 am on Friday.
Moody appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday.
He must apply to the Supreme Court if he wants bail, so he was automatically remanded in custody.
Lee, a tertiary college manager, from Bunya, on Brisbane's northside, had been at a wake for a friend who died of cancer on New Year's Day.
Waiting in line at the unofficial taxi rank outside Harry's Fine Foods with friends, he confronted a group who jumped the queue.
A series of rolling brawls followed, ending with Lee allegedly being struck to the ground.
He is believed to have suffered head injuries when he hit the road. He died on the way to Royal Brisbane Hospital.
Moody and his friends left the scene in a taxi. He handed himself in to police with two other men on Friday afternoon. A woman who had been with them but got out of the taxi in Caxton St was also found and interviewed.
Magistrate Dermot Kehoe ordered Moody, a joiner from New South Wales, to appear in court again on January 31.
